The Hahn Homestead property, located between Nuriootpa and Tanunda, has been occupied by the Hahn family since 1846. As some of the first settlers in the Barossa Valley they had the choice of some of the best land. This was known to the locals as ' Big Red Gum' country. They are, in fact, the oldest homesteading family in the Barossa Valley, having continuously occupied the original homestead since it was completed in 1848. The house is currently occupied by sixth generation descendant, James, with his wife, Jackie, and their children (seventh generation). The first commercial planting of vines on this land was by Gottfried Hahn in 1890.
